@/actions-global
Global Redux actions and hooks for handling user notifications.
Installation
yarn add @commercetools-frontend/actions-global# ornpm --save install @commercetools-frontend/actions-global
Additionally install the peer dependencies (if not present).
yarn add react redux react-redux# ornpm --save install react redux react-redux
Notification system
Custom Applications have a built-in notification system built on top of Redux.
The @commercetools-frontend/actions-global
package provides Redux action creators and React hooks to facilitate dispatching notifications within Custom Applications.
Action creators
Rather than using the action creators directly, we recommend using the corresponding React hooks. The hooks have the dispatch
method of the Redux store bound internally.
showNotification
An action creator to dispatch any kind of notification.
Takes 2 arguments: notification
object (required) and meta
object (optional).
notification
object properties
Property | Type | Required | Values | Default | Description |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
kind | string | ✅ | success , error , warning , info , unexpected-error , api-error | - | The kind of the notification. |
domain | string | ✅ | side , global , page | - | The domain of the notification. |
text | string | - | - | - | The text content of the notification. |
For defining the domain and the kind of a notification we recommend using the values exposed from @commercetools-frontend/constants
.
For instance:
import {DOMAINS,NOTIFICATION_KINDS_SIDE,} from '@commercetools-frontend/constants';const kind = NOTIFICATION_KINDS_SIDE.success;const domain = DOMAINS.SIDE;
meta
object properties
Property | Type | Required | Values | Default | Description |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
dismissAfter | number | - | - | 5000 (only for the success notification) | Delay (in milliseconds) between the appearing and the closing of the notification. |
onDismiss | function | - | - | - | Called when the notification closes. Receives notification id as an argument. |
showApiErrorNotification
An action creator to dispatch a (page) error notification for API errors of the commercetools HTTP API.
Takes as argument an object with errors
property, which is an error object or an array of error objects.
Some error sources (for example, GraphQL APIs) return an array or object. The showApiErrorNotification
action creator accepts both as the value of errors
property.
const errors = [{message:"A duplicate value '\"Test channel\"' exists for field 'key'.",code: "DuplicateField",extensions: {code: "DuplicateField";};},];// ...dispatch(showApiErrorNotification({ errors })); // dispatch method from Redux store
handleActionError
An action creator that attempts to handle a generic error and dispatch the appropriate (page) notification error if possible. Use this when you simply need to ensure that a notification error is displayed without knowing the exact error.
It takes only one parameter that can be either of these types:
- API error - an error object containing
statusCode
andbody
object
import { STATUS_CODES } from '@commercetools-frontend/constants';const error = {statusCode: STATUS_CODES.FORBIDDEN, // statusCode: 403body: {message: 'This is an error',errors: [{message: 'This is an error', // this message will be displayed as notification textcode: 'Invalid',},],},};// ...dispatch(handleActionError(error)); // dispatch method from Redux store
statusCode: 401
will result in logout of the currently logged user.
statusCode: 404
will be ignored and no notification will be displayed.
If the errors array contains multiple error objects, the displayed notification will contain all error messages.
For example:
const error = {// ...body: {// ...errors: [{message: 'This is the first error', // displayed as the notification textcode: 'Invalid',},{message: 'This is the second error', // also displayed as the notification textcode: 'Invalid',},],},};
- an instance of any error extended from
Error
class
class CustomError extends Error {constructor(message) {super(message);this.name = 'CustomError';}}const error = new CustomError('error');dispatch(handleActionError(error)); // dispatch method from Redux store
hideAllPageNotifications
An action creator to hide all active page notifications. Does not take any arguments.
dispatch(hideAllPageNotifications()); // dispatch method from Redux store
Hooks
useShowNotification
A React hook to dispatch showNotification
action.
import { useShowNotification } from '@commercetools-frontend/actions-global';import {DOMAINS,NOTIFICATION_KINDS_SIDE,} from '@commercetools-frontend/constants';const showSuccessNotification = useShowNotification();showSuccessNotification({domain: DOMAINS.SIDE,kind: NOTIFICATION_KINDS_SIDE.success,text: 'All good!',});
useShowApiErrorNotification
A React hook to dispatch showApiErrorNotification
action.
import { useShowApiErrorNotification } from '@commercetools-frontend/actions-global';const errors = [{message: "A duplicate value '\"Test channel\"' exists for field 'key'.",code: 'DuplicateField',},];const showApiErrorNotification = useShowApiErrorNotification();showApiErrorNotification({ errors });
useOnActionError
A React hook to dispatch handleActionError
action.
import { STATUS_CODES } from '@commercetools-frontend/constants';import { useOnActionError } from '@commercetools-frontend/actions-global';const error = {statusCode: STATUS_CODES.FORBIDDEN, // statusCode: 403body: {message: 'This is an error',errors: [{message: 'This is an error',code: 'Invalid',},],},};const onActionError = useOnActionError();onActionError(error);
useHideAllPageNotifications
A React hook to dispatch hideAllPageNotifications
action.
import { useHideAllPageNotifications } from '@commercetools-frontend/actions-global';const hideAllPageNotifications = useHideAllPageNotifications();hideAllPageNotifications();
